Favorites & Recommendations
When I was a little girl, I devoured books - sometimes reading an entire book in one day. I'm known to reread favorites, but I love discovering new tales, too. Reading to the children in my classroom is one of my favorite pastimes, so I've included a few favorite children's books on my list.

Kinfolks, Sean Dietrich
Kinfolks had me hooked from the first line—"This is the wrong way to begin a novel." There is no "just right" way to begin a story because each one is as unique and personable as the writer telling it. Sean Dietrich's storytelling voice is lyrical, straightforward, and filled with curves, corners, and out-of-the-way places, just like a southern backroad. Kinfolks is a heartfelt story about family bonds that transcend blood relations. A real picture of growing up in the small-town South, overcoming heart wrenching loss, and the greatness that comes with forgiveness—for others and ourselves.
Shelterwood, Lisa Wingate
The atmosphere of Shelterwood hooked me in on the first page, drawing me into an expertly woven dual-timeline between 1990 and 1909. NPS law enforcement ranger, Valerie Boren-Odell's drive to uncover secrets and protective nature made her a relatable and unputdownable character. Olive August Radley's feisty, yet innocent storytelling drew me into a world where resilience, strength, and love conquered evil. If you are interested in little-known history told through authentic voices that echo across time, Shelterwood is your next read. Lisa Wingate's books are always worth the wait!
100 Days of Sunlight, Abbie Emmons
I stepped out of my usual genre for this book, and I loved it! Abbie Emmons hosts a YouTube page just for writers. Her Writer's Life Wednesday videos align nicely with my favorite writing advice book—Lisa Cron's Story Genius. Abbie writes YA romance, so it might seem a little odd for a grown woman to enjoy a story about 16 year old kids, but this book is so well written. I wanted to turn the page and discover every little thing I could about Tessa and Weston's story. Strength. Resilience. And how to find light in the dark. If you have a young adult or teenager in your life, get them this book! Even if you don't, pick it up for yourself. You won't be disappointed.
